If you are a sports fan you may have heard of two popular Australian podcasts, Dyl & Friends, and The Howie Games.
Dylan Buckley (Dyl & Friends) was being interviewed by Mark Howard (The Howie Games).
Here’s what Dylan had to say about feedback, in relation to his former AFL career:
“I had some incredible feedback from a lot of guys about learning how to work hard and learning how to be a sponge, and something I’d never done – feedback. I couldn’t take feedback. If you gave me feedback, it was like you were attacking me, my family, and my bloodline. I was like, ‘How dare you give me feedback?’ as a young kid. Coaches would be like, ‘Mate, the moment you don’t get feedback is when people give up on you’. For me now, it’s about seeking it, being a sponge, asking what I can do, and knowing that it is to make me better, not to attack me. I struggled with those things as a young man, and it comes down to ego and wanting to be right.”
I really appreciate Dylan’s mindset about making mistakes. In a nutshell, he recommends failing fast and moving on.
