Feedback Snapshot: Gen X

According to a 2021 report by Deloitte, Gen X makes up 37% of the Australian workforce. Gen X, born between 1965 and 1980, is an essential generation in the workforce with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Understanding their feedback needs and preferences is crucial for creating a supportive and productive work environment.


I conducted my own research in February 2023, and here’s what I found:

What are Gen Xs saying about offering feedback?

  • 52.5% of Gen X believe they offer enough feedback in their workplace.

  • Nearly half of Gen X felt comfortable offering feedback in the workplace.

  • 16.9% felt clumsy offering feedback in the workplace. 


When it comes to feeling comfortable offering feedback, they reported they felt the most comfortable offering:

What are Gen Xs saying about receiving feedback?

  • 54.2% believe they are not receiving enough feedback in their workplace.

  • 81.4% said they were receptive to feedback.

  • 8.5% said they were reluctant to receive feedback.
